The Hammer Falls at Hadassah

Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, has implemented emergency cost-savings measures.

Beginning yesterday and continuing into this morning, roughly 25% of their professional staff has been terminated effective immediately.

In an additional move to save money, we have learned the 2009 National Convention has been canceled.

We have been unable to confirm what effect, if any, these cutbacks will have on Hadassah Hospital or Hadassah College of Technology in Jerusalem – though faculty and students at the College have expressed anxiety the past few days about programs being cut.

Last week we reported that the two year old Hadassah-Young Judaea Youth Hostel in Jerusalem is up for sale.

What shoe will drop next?

update Jan15th on Hadassah College of Technology: As of this month (January) the staff of Hadassah College in Jerusalem is taking an 8.3% pay cut across the board. To further preserve resources, the school will be closed during the month of September.

The vaad ovdim is having a meeting today with the administration to clarify what is going on.
