Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, has implemented emergency cost-savings measures.
Beginning yesterday and continuing into this morning, roughly 25% of their professional staff has been terminated effective immediately.
In an additional move to save money, we have learned the 2009 National Convention has been canceled.
We have been unable to confirm what effect, if any, these cutbacks will have on Hadassah Hospital or Hadassah College of Technology in Jerusalem – though faculty and students at the College have expressed anxiety the past few days about programs being cut.
Last week we reported that the two year old Hadassah-Young Judaea Youth Hostel in Jerusalem is up for sale.

update Jan15th on Hadassah College of Technology: As of this month (January) the staff of Hadassah College in Jerusalem is taking an 8.3% pay cut across the board. To further preserve resources, the school will be closed during the month of September.
Not sure how how they are coming up with a number of 25%, I am one of the employees that was let go yesterday and when I counted the employee names on my list, there were about 200 in the building. 80/200 does not equal 25%, even if my number is slightly off, it’s not even close to 25%. The ones doing the math should be out of a job. So many good people were let go of yesterday. Shame on you Hadassah!
