The Journal of Jewish Education invites papers for a thematic issue highlighting research on the growing phenomenon of start-ups and entrepreneurism in Jewish education. Over the past decade, there has been an increasing number of creative initiatives in a wide range of Jewish educational contexts. We invite scholars to contribute to this issue in an effort to define and elaborate on this exciting and creative field within the international world of Jewish Education.

We are interested in receiving thoughtful scholarly research-based papers that can provide research about this enterprise and can advance the successful consideration of this subject from an empirical study.

We welcome papers from a range of disciplinary perspectives. Submissions are invited from historical, anthropological, sociological, educational, philosophical, and/or psychological perspectives, across methodological frameworks, and focused on both historical and contemporary sites. Potential topics might include but are not limited to:

The types of innovations in the development of the field,

  • the forces, factors, institutions and dynamics that come into play regarding start-ups or entrepreneurism in a specific context or in comparative perspective,
  • the challenges that arise in the course of educational entrepreneurism in Jewish Education
  • the role of philanthropic policy and funding considerations in this enterprise

We will consider papers from a broad context of Jewish education initiatives, from formal to informal education, from established to new understandings of community across the lifespan from early education to adult and senior education.
