Israeli Medical Team to Perform Eye Surgeries in Ethiopia


A medical team from the humanitarian group Eye from Zion will perform free eye surgeries for Ethiopians and train local medical professionals in Gondar and Debark from September 1-10, 2011.

The volunteer team, which includes specialist doctors and nurses will focus on cataract and oculoplastic surgeries at Gondar Hospital and a rural clinic in Debark.

The mission is primarily supported by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) in partnership with the Israeli International Agency for Development Cooperation (MASHAV).

The team travels with a mobile operating theater with all the necessary equipment, medications and lenses to carry out on-the-spot examinations, treatments, surgeries.
