Who are they?
To some, they represent the MTV generation; to others Millenials or Generation Y. To the UJC, they are simply NextGen. They number around 76 million Americans and will form the most technology savvy bulk of the adult population over the next twenty years. They have been inspired by the aspirations, hopes and financial freedom of their Baby Boomer parents; they are optimistic, idealistic and feel empowered. This funky young crowd, sporting their own definition of Judaism, is the harbinger of a new golden age of Jewish communal innovation.
Our community is thriving. Every year, hundreds of young adults are entering professional educational programs to become leaders of our community. Additional visionaries, creating programs on a shoe-string, or armed with just an idea, are giving birth to exciting, fresh and cutting edge endeavors…
~new magazine publications including Habitus and PresenTense plus the numerous and diverse world of the Jewish blog-o-sphere
~innovative record labels like JDub and Oleh Records who not only present rule-breaking Jewish musicians but also host cultural programming aimed at a young, with-it Jewish audience
~Organizations and initiatives as diverse as Mechon Hadar and Sharsheret
~Limmud expanding and flourishing worldwide.
The first seeds have begun to sprout. Bikurrim, borrowing the concept of incubation from the business world, is helping grass root ideas flourish and move towards sustainability while Kol Dor, PICZ and ROI 120 bring together innovators on the cutting edge of Jewish creativity.
It is for this diverse audience eJewish Philanthropy has been conceived.
Just as we teach our traditions and history to our children, we have an obligation to equip them, this next generation, with the management tools they will need to succeed. It is our responsibility to mentor and provide the necessary guidance and assistance to all of these organizations along with the many dedicated individuals involved with them so they may flourish.
eJewish Philanthropy was developed as a Web 2.0 resource providing e-tools and resources directed primarily to and about grassroots and small Jewish organizations.
Our goal is to teach new skills and assist organizations progress as they adopt to the changes and challenges of the 21st Century.
We will focus on education and call on the expertise of the countless and dedicated academics, activists, lay leaders, professionals and students in our Jewish world to help tailor information and address issues of concern and interest to us all. We will become an
instant publishing channel of Jewish Philanthropy news
and fundraising content resources
eJewish Philanthropy will incorporate blogs, pod-casts, video, webinars and more; our audience will be able to interact with us and each other.
We will highlight:
- Internet Strategies as they relate to managing and promoting a non-profit organization
- the ethical use of the Internet for Philanthropy
- The latest happenings in the world of Jewish Philanthropy
Forging partnerships worldwide, eJewish Philanthropy will also serve as a global clearinghouse and bulletin board showcasing grassroots Jewish activists and community builders. We will acquaint you with this new generation of idealists and trend setters. We will independently highlight ideas, relationships and most important, innovation from this vibrant, mostly young, community.
We invite you to join us, lead by example and…
Connect. Educate. Innovate.
