Three Florida Federations Create Regional Alliance

March 21, 2012 By eJP

In the first such Jewish Federation partnership, three Florida Jewish communities have agreed to create a regional alliance.

The Federations – the Tampa Jewish Community Center & Federation, the Jewish Federation of Pinellas & Pasco Counties, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando – will become equal partners in an alliance created to meaningfully increase giving, generate cost savings and strengthen leadership positioning on key issues in the Jewish world.

Through the alliance, the three communities will collaborate on campaign programming and outreach, as well as business and social networking throughout the region. The Federations gain a more powerful, collective voice on issues in the Jewish community and Israel. In addition, they expect cost savings through integrated accounting, back-office operations and possible management roles, and have the ability to attract greater talent due to their larger presence.

The Federations, whose combined communities include more than 75,000 Jews, will maintain separate governing boards, fundraising (except for specific initiatives) and allocations.

This is not the first alliance between the three Federations.

The TOP (Tampa, Orlando, Pinelles) Jewish Foundation was founded in the early 1980s and is still very functional today: http://www.jccsuncoast.org/post/TOP

For goodness sake, why do you present this as a press release instead of the news story it is: these Federations are joining together because they continue to lose contributors and their donations are plummeting. Studebaker and Packard also joined forces in the 1950s and it sure didn’t help them. I do not say this to gloat. I think it’s awful and I wish American Jews did support their federations–which do an admirable job of gathering and disbursing funds to worthy Jewish projects.
