If nonprofits found a silver lining behind the Haiti catastrophe, it was learning how fast a mobile campaign can raise a lot of money in a hurry. Jim Manis, chairman and CEO of the Mobile Giving Foundation in Bellevue, Wash, suggests that it takes about two weeks to create a mobile campaign. Manis says that there are five steps to setting up the campaign: Nonprofits must apply for an NPO application package from the Mobile Giving Foundation. The application is a series of questions that ensure that the organization meets federal and state laws and operates with transparency. There is a one-time application fee of $350. Mobile Giving Foundation reviews the data and notifies wireless carriers that the organization has been approved. Once approved, an organization is given a short code and keyword for... Continue Reading

Communication, including the best utilization of social media tools, is continually changing. Developing, and directing interactive strategy, is becoming more mission critical. Organizations need trained professionals who can interact at the highest level to help craft and implement integrated approaches. Here are a few articles that may be helpful in considering your various needs. from Massachusetts Technology and Innovation Exchange: Director of Community: Not Just Tweeting All Day Long Similar to misperceptions in email, I believe that many are beginning to recognize the importance of the Community Manager (Director of Community) role in organizations. While some still think about those responsible for social media as people who “play around on Twitter all day long,” I believe this flippant... Continue Reading

Our Latest Tech Links

I’ve had a busy few weeks – Limmud UK along with a series of meetings and presentations in London. The most popular subject of discussion (after the economy’s effect on philanthropy) is how organizations can best utilize social media to advance their agendas. In our article links section, we bring you informative, current links to nonprofit blogs and trade publications that we hope will assist you in staying current on the newest global trends and technology while at the same time providing guidance in evaluating concepts and tools for your own organization. Here are our latest additions; we encourage you to check back often as new links are... Continue Reading

Some donors are more likely to read and act on an email. And it’s not particularly complicated to do. Almost every organization should... Continue Reading
