JGlobal Holds Tikun Olam Conference for Young Adults in Vienna
JGLOBAL (Global Jewish Platform for Young Adults), an initiative by the Seidner Jewish Foundation, in partnership with the Federal Jewish National and Cultural Autonomy of Russia, The Jewish Agency for Israel and Moadon Vienna organized the first GLOBAL Tikun Olam Conference for young Jewish adults. The early Chanukah event, held in Vienna, was entitled “The miracles we can make happen” around the idea of taking actions to transform the world around us.
Participants ranged from 18 years old to those just over 40, and hailed from Russia, Romania, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Poland, and even formerly the U.S., Latin America and Central Asia.
The group was a mix of people who are already involved in Tikun Olam projects and those who want to start their engagement. It wasn’t a meeting of leaders or social entrepreneurs (although some of the participants were) but people with different expectations on how much they want to be involved.
Two of the highlights of the event were a “Tikun Olam Kabbalat Shabbat” when songs relating to the idea of changing the world were inserted into the traditional Shabbat repertoire; and the participation at the Chanukah Party of all youth groups in Vienna at the first night of Chanukah.
