JAFI: The State of Governance Reform

All too often, 140 characters does not do proper justice to current events. So let’s explain what has transpired and will transpire.

The Assembly of the Jewish Agency overwhelmingly approved all proposed governance changes to the Jewish Agency. These same changes must be approved later today by JAFI’s Board of Governors. The likelihood of the Board not concurring is almost nil.

Most likely tonight, the newly defined nominating committee will hold their first meeting. As of now, Natan Sharansky is the only candidate who will be discussed for Chair of the Executive. On Thursday, the Board will vote on the nominating committee recommendation.

In a reversal of past practice, the Zionist General Council is expected to meet following the JAFI decision to elect their Chair.

Then again, none of the timing appears set in stone.
