I’m appalled!
Perhaps, on “jewtube”, but let’s not give fuel to the arsonists.
I think it’s brilliant, and a fitting response to a despicable situation. Bravo Magevet!
Even Madoff can’t match the Ponzi Scheme perpetrated on us by the American government.
Besides screwing so many Jewish institutions and so many of his lansmen, Bernie has given the hate-mongers a ton of ammunition. Why give them more? However, I’m sure these talented young people didn’t have that in mind. Ah, the naivety of youth!
“Ruthie” should be dressed more modestly.
Thanx for the laugh!
This is in terrible taste, not even funny, and creates poorer image of Jews as heartless, money grubbers.
Funny, Clever but we don’t need Bernie Madoff as a representative. We have enough tsoris.
Not funny, not original, unworthy of Yale!
One reason Jews have managed to exist through these centuries of oppression is our ability to laugh. We laugh at trouble, make jokes about the non-funny. Mostly, we laugh at ourselves.
May we continue to thrive!
This fuels anti-semitism — this is disgusting and not needed.
Hard to laugh. Well done, good inside humor. But not helpful with non-Jews. And a bit too close to the event of Jewish charitable groups going under.
Some things are just not funny. It’s like making fun of somebody’s death.
Some of the comments are a bit heavy, Why can’t we just lighten up and have a much needed laugh or two, and appreciate some youthful talent?
They have nice voices. Too bad they were wasted in this poor taste video. Many people were hurt, Jews, Christians and organizations by this piece of… At least the people who did Springtime for Hitler in Germany knew they were doing something wrong.
I lost a ton of money with Madoff. This is the first funny things to come out of it.
When you add the SEC as See, Hear, and Speak no evil, walking gagged with blinders & earplugs…this is going to Broadway…and the safest form of revenge one should resort to…great show!
Any proceeds should go to the charitable organizations that are teetering on the brink from their losses in the ponzi scheme.
Milks the gag a bit, but it is funny. About some of the comments: To worry about non-Jews is like my grandmother’s “sha still.” It’s funny because it hits too close to home. But if we can’t laugh at collective mistakes, we can always revel in self-pity.
This is great! I don’t see why people are upset.
You nailed it.
Good job.
Wonderful! I agree it should go to Broadway, be heavily promoted, and benefit some of the organizations harmed by this megacrook. I also want to reassure any Jewish people, who may have doubts, that we gentiles love our Jewish friends and family without regard to this episode – not to worry! History is too full of bad folks from all ethnicities, races, and walks of life; we all live in glass houses in that regard. Bravo and Mazeltov!
Interesting treatment. It is truly sad that so many hard innocent individuals and charitable institutions were impacted adversily by Bernie’s actions. To believe that He could have accomplished these dastardly acts without a great deal of cooperation and colusion of many others. The government watch dogs were asleep and also bear blame for this fiasco.
well done! —magevet alum, ’99
OUCH! for me also! I am very sensitive to antisemitism, having come from Germany on the Kindertransport, I was not very comfortable with the Producers either.
This was not only in poor taste, but was poorly done (if you’re gonna write a spoof, at least make the endings rhyme).
Adding fuel to a fire which, at least on the surface, has died down isn’t smart. We have enough stereotypes of Jews already, we don’t need one emanating from some of our brightest kids at one of our finest universities.
Shanah Tova, good thing this is the time to repent.
Well at the start of a new year it is fun to smile.
It would be amazing to use humor and music to restore the loss of many.
If it would bring glory and honor to the Creator let it be so.
Interesting chats here. i am also offended by the skit.
It’s just not funny. It didn’t even make me laugh one bit. It was simply boring and a waste of talented voices. Sometimes people are so awful you have to make fun of them but this didn’t do a good job.
Although the actress portraying Ruthie had a nice voice, I did not find the video the least bit amusing. Bernie Madoff and his wife, Ruthie, have financially destroyed numerous households, institutions and philanthropies, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, but his acts have especially harmed the Jewish community where he found many of his victims. On top of that, he, with the help of his immediate family, have done more to fuel the anti-Semitic stereotype of Jews as thieving “money-grubbers” than any anti-Semitic gentile in recent history. Personally, I think he and his immediate family deserve to be wiped off the face of the earth, and his name spoken with the same sort of contempt often reserved for formers members of the Third Reich.
The gentiles have viewed Jews as money-grubbers since the Church forbade Christians from lending money and Jews from owning land – it didn’t take a schmuck like Madoff and his mishpocha, or Magevet, to reinforce a long-ingrained stereotype. Magevet should live and be well, and the Madoffs (and no see-um regulators) rot in penury for as many incarnations as Karma kicks tuchas.
Absolutely not funny!!!!! Just fuels more anti-semitism.
I am sure these young people can use their talents to a better advantage.
As satire goes, this ranks with what I have seen on SNL. Very well done.
Hey, give these people a break. They were doing a show at University. When I took part in Uni shows, if it was current then we satirised it. Should they look for fun in the Teapot Dome Affair? Or, if you are reading this in the UK, the Profumo Affair? Old news, dead and buried.
Yes it affected the Jewish Community, but, I hate to say it, Madoff targeted the Jewish Community, who should have been savvy enough to know if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I am deeply sorry for all those who lost, but if the returns were so fantastic surely someone must have wondered why?
not funny and in poor taste besides…
Very funny satire, and very well put together…. it’s art.. Lighten up …. it IS satirically and ironically very funny…
I thought this was well done. Quite funny.
I feel this is very antisemetic oriented. Should be oriented to the crime and not his religion.
Well done boys and girls , one day maybe will be made in a musical. Fact is Bernie is a Jew , he screwed out of money other Jews, some Jewish kids parody him . What is the big deal ? Get a life you sad socks…He is a heartless SOB that destroyed hundreds of lives and one day I shall piss on his grave . He’s done more to fuel antisemitism more than anyone.
Take it off. shameful. the man was a villan and used used our community todestroy people and philathropies. shame.
Madoff is an easy target for an “if I were a rich man” parady. It was a no brainer, but could have been better if they used an original song and skipped the drinking wine thing in the beginning.
Very cute. I did not think that this promoted antisemitism. The young people were terrific.
Too painful to watch, and, as others have noted, too close to the real event, which remains incomprehensible in its disregard for the Jewish community, and their philanthropy.
Bernie can’t hold a candle to what Barack is going to do to us – if we give him a chance.
Wow, so many negative people. I thought it was brilliant.
If this doesn’t boost of success, then the play
The Producers shouldn’t have been a Broadway hit either.
You people can’t get past the ‘this is about me’ syndrome
The raw talent, the ingenuity and the creativity was
charming, fetching and totally entertaining in a thinking
man/woman’s way.
Thank you for sharing
and Happy New Year
I know I’m gonna get blasted but those who invested with Bernie were motivated by greed – he gotcha! The world is full of angst – if you don’t believe it, look out your front door at the folks on the street. If you can’t laugh, even at yourself and even when in pain, your life must be dreadful. It was a great parody, well done, in good taste, and they should do more!!
This production is utterly shameful, and more so being performed by Jewish people.
I ask those who think this performance is funny to check out anti-Semitic websites before dismissing comments from those of us who are concerned. These Yale students play up Madoff’s Jewishness and money-hungry deviousness, in such a typically, and tragically, anti-Semitic fashion.
For their sake and for ours, I honestly hope that these ignorant students end up getting something worthwhile out of their education at Yale.
the ivy league strikes again. if its not the arabs at columbia its our own at yale. humor is wonderful. it makes it easier to go through the pain and slow death of our society. god help us!
I think the only way we can maintain our culture is to continue to laugh at ourselves as we have always done. Being Jewish in the world since the Holacaust is not as tough as it was before but we do have to laugh because if we don’t we will cry.
Please, get over yourselves already. Being a child of Holocaust survivors, I was brought up as were my sister & brothers to laugh at many things. This small video is clever, funny and in no way gives Jews a bad name. Perhaps you who truly hated this, were burned by Madoff and feel a bit ashamed to be linked to him any any way, shape or form.
Give me a break!!!

I just expected more from Yale … it was funny in a painful way, but could have been so much better.
Also, too many stops …perhaps my computer…some sense of punishment might have given it more depth …
Vunderful! Vunderful!
