ZAKA Search and Rescue volunteers are already at work in Miami, (literally) bringing light in the darkness to homes in the North Miami Beach neighborhood. As soon as the five ZAKA volunteers arrived in Florida from their week-long clean-up operation in Houston, they joined forces with C.S.E. Miami (Chesed Shel Emes) under the direction of Mark Rosenberg to help the local community.

ZAKA International Rescue Unit Chief Officer Mati Goldstein flew in from Israel to lead the team: “We are working in the area which is without power, helping families with sick children and elderly people who were unable to evacuate from the area.” The team is working in in coordination with the local emergency forces and the North Miami Beach Police.

Local police chief Major Richard Rand, who was in the area, expressed his gratitude to the team who came to join the community effort. “This is an unbelievable effort. People going from house to house at 01:30 in the morning when everyone else is sleeping, to make sure they are safe.”
