Tikkun Olam Women’s Foundation Announces 2019-2020 Grantees

The Tikkun Olam Women’s Foundation of Greater Washington (TOWF) has announced its grantees for its 2019-2020 grant cycle. TOWF supports nonprofit organizations that promote social change to empower women and girls. Since 2006, TOWF has funded nearly 50 organizations in the DC metro area and in Israel, awarding over $1.5 million in grants.

This year, TOWF has selected 16 nonprofits to grant, distributing a total of $200,000 in four focus areas including those listed below. “Our 2019 awards reflect our intent to address today’s critical and emerging issues. For instance, we are funding programs in Israel that are challenging the increasing segregation of women in the public sphere, whether at schools, the military, on buses or in the street. In the DC area we are funding programs to help refugees fleeing violence from their homes or their governments. We are a catalyst in raising the issue of the sexual harassment in our local Jewish community and support programs to bring Jewish women together with women of different ethnic and religious backgrounds,” said Joan Kuriansky, Chair of the TOWF Board.

Increasing women’s voice through leadership and advocacy:

Free women from violence and abuse:

  • Tahirih Justice Center ($10,000)

  • Asian Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project ($10,000)

  • Kayan Feminist Organization ($14,000)

  • Project Kesher ($10,000)

  • Human Trafficking Legal Center ($12,000)

Promote peace by building relationships among women from diverse communities and backgrounds:

Eliminate injustices and change attitudes that systematically exclude or disadvantage women:
