The Launch of the Global Connection Competition

A global Jewish effort is underway to identify an original, creative, implementable, and enduring initiative to strengthen the connection between Diaspora Jewry and Israel. Over 30 organizations and over 20 judges from around the world have partnered with the SonShine Foundation to invite social entrepreneurs with an interest in Jewish peoplehood to submit an innovative proposal. The winning initiative will receive a $10,000 cash prize.

Applicants may apply as individuals or as a team. Proposals are not limited in scope or budget. The Sonshine Foundation, founded by Ofir and Bat Galim Shaer, the parents of Gilad Shaer z”l who was kidnapped and murdered in 2014, assume the responsibility for moving the winning initiative from concept to reality.

Why a global contest?

“During the weeks of uncertainty,” Bat Galim and Ofir said about the abduction of the boys 4 1/2 years ago, “the support we received from all corners of the Jewish world was unparalleled. It was a powerful testament to the mutual responsibility and global connection felt by Jews around the globe. Today, we seek to mine the wisdom, entrepreneurship, and creativity to leverage this connection.”

Proposals may be submitted in any of six languages: Russian, Spanish, German, French, English, and Hebrew. The deadline for the initial proposal is March 7, 2019.
