Lapid, the new International Coalition for High School Age Programs in Israel, has announced that Miami Beach’s Stephen Muss has accepted the position of Honorary Chairman. With his added help and support, Lapid plans to continue to expand both in numbers and scope.

Lapid, the International Coalition for High School Age Programs in Israel, was recently established to raise awareness and increase the number of high school age participants in quality Israel experiences. It is striving to gain recognition and support comparable to that enjoyed by post-high school trips from the Israeli government, philanthropists and Diaspora communities. Lapid hopes to develop a universal voucher for high school students providing benefits similar to those received by MASA participants.

As Lapid programs take place during the formative teenage high school years – when identity formation is most acute – these programs can influence the college chosen, the course of study, activities and social circles of the students. Program alumni can also partake in a full range of MASA programs in subsequent years. In fact, a large percentage of MASA participants receive their initial motivation from a prior Lapid experience.

Whether the program focuses on academics, social justice or outdoor activities, Lapid program students connect to the land and to the people of Israel and often become more active in their own Jewish community when they return home.

With now more than 20 members and constantly growing, the Lapid high school coalition is made up of Jewish day schools, Israel programs and youth movements.
