Thank you for this well written call to action. It is so shocking to think that Israel could end up as just another repressed Middle Eastern society. What’s next? Burkas? How can the ultra orthodox miss out on treating other human beings with respect and dignity (which is key to what I believe to be an important part of being a “religious” Jew. “Observant” seems to be a whole other animal that is really getting out of control) I literally fell off my chair to read that 50% of first graders are ultra-orthodox now in Israel. This is a critical time for the Jewish people to set the record straight on what it means to be Jewish. Love your neighbor as yourself, there’s just no need for gender-bashing. I can’t believe its 2012 with MLK day on the way, and there is a movement in Israel to have segregated buses that is actually taken seriously. Its disgusting. We need to bring civil rights to the top of what it means to be Jewish. No discrimination or repression of freedom should be tolerated. Where are the courts on all of this?
