Jonathan A. Greenblatt, a social entrepreneur, government official and corporate executive with extensive experience in building socially conscious businesses and creating innovative public-private partnerships has been named the next national director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

The decision is the culmination of a two-year national search for a successor to longtime director Abraham H. Foxman. Mr. Foxman is slated to retire on July 20, 2015, when Mr. Greenblatt formally will step into the role.

A social entrepreneur with extensive experience in the public and private sectors, Mr. Greenblatt has served as Special Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office of Social Innovation & Civic Participation since 2011. In this role, he has directed the Administration’s strategies on national service, civic engagement, social finance and impact investing.

Before joining the government, Mr. Greenblatt co-founded Ethos Brands, the business that launched Ethos Water, the premium bottled water that donates a portion of its profits to fund clean water programs around the world. The business was acquired by Starbucks Coffee Company in 2005, and Mr. Greenblatt subsequently served as a senior executive at the company, directing the successful launch of Ethos Water across North America and serving on the board of the Starbucks Foundation.
