Following [in one case] an extensive national search, and in another, an international one, 2 significant appointments were announced yesterday:

Joy Sisisky will join Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties (the Federation) as the new Chief Philanthropy Officer, charged with overseeing all of the Federation’s fundraising, engaging new generations of philanthropists, and delivering advisory services, education, and resources to Jewish philanthropists and their community of partners.

Joy has served as the executive director of the Jewish Women’s Foundation of New York from 2009 until now. Previously, she was selected as the 2007-2008 Ralph I. Goldman Fellow in International Jewish Communal Service at the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, where she lived and worked in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Joy is co-founder of Do Good Ukraine!, the first-ever organization dedicated to building civil society through volunteerism in Ukraine. Earlier, she served as the associate director for national women’s philanthropy at United Jewish Communities, where she worked with local Jewish federations in the development of gender-based fundraising and managed the $400 million national Lion of Judah Endowment program.

Across “the pond” in the UK, Limmud, the volunteer-driven, global Jewish learning organisation, has appointed Eli Ovits as its new Executive Director. Based in the UK and with global responsibility, Mr. Ovits will work closely with Limmud Chair David Hoffman and the Limmud Board to build on and expand Limmud’s unique strengths in convening Jews of every type, spread Limmud’s model of celebrating Jewish learning, and mentor ever-increasing numbers of volunteers.
