Second Global Day of Jewish Learning Coming Up

Over 200 Communities, More Than Forty Countries,
Participating in Second Annual Global Day of Jewish Learning

On Sunday, November 13, 2011, over 200 communities world-wide will take part in a day of study and exploration celebrating shared Jewish text through community based learning uniting the Jewish people.

The Global Day of Jewish Learning is built around community based gatherings in a continuing effort to inspire a revival in Jewish learning. Last year, Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz, renowned teacher, philosopher, social critic and prolific author, celebrated the completion of his monumental 45 volume translation and commentary on the Talmud with thousands of Jews. In his words, “We Jews are slowly becoming strangers to one another. Instead of useless dialogue and discussion, let us find words and ideas that we all can share and say together, a fundamental Jewish text that declares a bond, a principle and identity for Jews from all over the world – Shema Yisrael, Hear O Israel.”
