This is a really big deal, and especially perfect timing before Tisha Ba’Av. Chazak HaBaruch.

I followed this event as it was taking place, as Jew who affiliates with Masorti Judaism.
On the one, this event is ‘a step in right direction’ in which Jews from various denominations get together to have a decent conversation, and I am proud that President Rivlin took the initiative and lead it.
At the same time, I am embarrassed that almost 2,000 years after the destruction of the 2nd temple and more than 60 years since the establishment of the modern State of Israel, we still think that it is a notable achievement when a few Jews can sit under the same roof and listen to each other.
I wish Klal Yisrael a meaningful 9 Be’Av

It’s not that Jews don’t sit and talk and are not friendly. They do, maybe not enough, but this is different.
This is a group of people trying to force the orthdox to give Jewish religious recognition to the non orthodox movments which they theologically oppose and contradict. By complaining that they are not playing nice and trying to force them to this high profile event which would send an unspoken message to the masses that it’s all the same theology is unfair. Are you asking for acceptance of people or acceptance of theology?
Invite them to your home and dint make a media event, I assure you that they will come. Otherwise, you are trying to co-opt them into endorsing something against their conscience.
