Reimagine Progressive Jewish Life on Your College Campus with the HUC-JIR Founders’ Fellowship

Do you have an idea for how to affect change within progressive Jewish life in your campus? Turn your idea into a reality by applying to the HUC-JIR Founders’ Fellowship!

Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion is now accepting applications for the second cohort of the Founders’ Fellowship. HUC-JIR’s founders, Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise and Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, were unwilling to sit idly by and accept the status quo. Inspired by their efforts, the Founders’ Fellowship empowers college students to stimulate meaningful change in progressive Jewish life in their campus communities through the implementation of innovative projects.

Currently, the seventeen fellows in the first cohort of the Founders’ Fellowship are engaged in projects to enhance progressive Jewish life on fifteen East Coast campuses. Projects include:

• developing a series of open conversations for the Jewish community surrounding topics of racial and social justice;
• using a love of piyyutim in an effort to debunk the Ashkenormativity on campus; and
• creating a feminist series focused on Jewish spirituality and the holidays.

The Fellowship is open to students at East Coast and West Coast colleges completing their freshman, sophomore, or junior year and returning to campus for the entire 2017-2018 academic year.

The application deadline is January 15, 2017.
