Project Kesher Fellowship for Female Jewish Professionals

The Project Kesher (PK) 2012 Fellowship is open to women Rabbis, Cantors and Jewish educational professionals. Fellows will participate as a “scholar-in-residence” on Project Kesher’s all-women’s trip to Kiev, Poltava and Cherkassy, Ukraine scheduled for October 14 – 22, 2012. The trip will connect women from the United States with their counter-parts from the former Soviet Union for a week of significant cross-cultural programming, shared experiences and Jewish content. At least three Torah Scrolls donated from congregations in the United States will be brought to the region as part of PK’s Torah Return Project. Fellows will be asked to help shape meaningful cross-cultural Jewish programming (i.e, text study, art, music, mitzvah project) and we hope will continue to educate their home community about the work of Project Kesher upon return to the U.S.

Project Kesher (PK) is the largest Jewish women’s organization in the countries of the former Soviet Union – and an emerging force in the Russian-speaking women’s community in Israel. Project Kesher has 185 Jewish women’s groups in Belarus, Georgia, Israel, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine, across 9 time zones and 90+ interfaith coalitions. In the past year, PK conducted in excess of 4,500 programs, most funded through local resources and was recognized in 2010 as a leader in Jewish communal life in “Compass” a group of leading foundations. Project Kesher is a pluralist organization, working with all denominations of Jewish life in the region.
