The Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego recently held a forum addressing “Strong Governance in Weak Times”. The various strategies shared are items we should all be reviewing on a continuous basis. They seem like best practice, but sometimes we all need a little nudge:

• Stick to your organization’s mission and avoid mission drift
• Increase oversight of finances and investments by convening often
• Explore new sources of income
• Review the organization’s strategic plan and budget, making adjustments if needed
• Create effective donor communications and connections
