Oil Spills and Floods

This has not been a good week for parts of the U.S. The Gulf Coast is dealing with an oil spill, and the Nashville area with severe flooding.

To assist with clean-up efforts of the former, Jewish Funds for Justice is re-opening their Gulf Recovery Fund, the first national Jewish disaster fund to help residents and communities impacted by the Gulf Coast oil spill.

In Nashville, the community pitches in; from The New York Jewish Week:

Nashville Jews Respond To Flood

The Jewish community of Nashville, largely unscathed by this week’s flooding of the Cumberland River banks, is assisting displaced members of the Jewish and wider community, Jewish leaders report.

Several hundred now-homeless Nashville citizens have found refuge at a Red Cross shelter – one of three set up locally in the wake of the flooding – at the Gordon Jewish Community Center, and the Jewish Family Service has offered counseling and financial assistance to flood victims.
