Milwaukee Jewish Federation plans for future

Milwaukee’s diverse Jewish community will gather this summer for what’s being called a first-of-its-kind summit that could reshape the structure and mission of its largest funding organization, the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, officials from the federation said Tuesday.

The two-day summit, June 26 and 27 at the Milwaukee Public Museum, is expected to bring together more than 300 Jews from across the faith spectrum – from Orthodox to Reconstructionist, as well as the unaffiliated – in an effort to gauge their priorities and visions for the future of the local Jewish community.

The federation “has more or less been doing business in the same way for more than 100 years,” its president, Jerry Benjamin said Tuesday.

“Our society has changed,” he said. “We’re a different community than we were at the birth of the state of Israel” in 1948.

… The federation is investing about $200,000 in the project and working with two consulting firms: Chicago-based Marble Leadership Partners and Innovation Labs in Orlando, Fla.

The idea of the summit is to find common ground on which to build a road map for moving forward.
