Melton Appoints New Leadership

The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning has appointed Rabbi Rachel Bovitz as Executive Director and Rabbi Morey Schwartz as International Director of Education and Innovation, both effective July 1, 2018.

Judy Mars Kupchan is retiring after more than two decades at Melton, the last eight as CEO.

Rabbi Bovitz (ordained at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies) and Rabbi Schwartz (ordained at Yeshiva University), both spent time as congregational rabbis.

Rabbi Bovitz was the founding director of Melton in the Los Angeles area and joined the international Melton staff two years ago as Chief Strategy Officer.

In his previous sixteen years with the Melton School, Rabbi Schwartz has been responsible for the development of the Rachel Wasserman Scholars curriculum. Schwartz also created the Melton Faculty Seminar, an annual orientation to best practices in adult learning.

Growth of the Melton School into new congregations and communities is on their agenda, as is the creation of new learning platforms, adaptations for new audiences, and new opportunities to impact the future of the Jewish people.

Rabbi Bovitz will be located in New York City and Rabbi Schwartz will continue working from the Florence Melton Institute at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
