Day school endowment hits $20 million mark

A year after its launch, a community-wide campaign in support of Jewish day school education has reached the $20 million mark.

More than 35 donor families have made commitments of $100,000 or more, and close to 100 donors have made gifts to the MetroWest Day School Campaign, an endowment initiative that aims to boost excellence and affordability at three local Jewish day schools.

World’s largest Jewish museum to be built in Moscow

The committee for the Russian-Jewish Museum of Tolerance in Moscow approved a final architectural plan this week that would produce the world’s largest Jewish museum.

The complex of buildings already contains several Jewish institutions, including a soup kitchen, the Shaarei Tzedek health services, a Chabad school, and two buildings – a yeshiva and a university – in the final stages of construction. The new museum is meant to be the complex’s crowning glory.

Jewish Community Federation board votes to move bulk of offices from downtown Cleveland to Beachwood

The Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland will pull the bulk of its operations out of downtown and staff a new office in the eastern suburbs, ending a 105-year tradition of locating its headquarters in Cleveland.

After months of fevered debate, members of the federation’s board of trustees voted 77-37, with one abstention, Thursday night to buy an office building in Beachwood.

UJC head faces tough task with overseas partners

Don’t expect Howard Rieger to spend his last year on the job quacking. Rieger, the president and CEO of the United Jewish Communities, told JTA this summer that he plans to play the heavy during the next dozen months as he works hard to make sure that the relationship between the UJC and the network of North American Jewish federations becomes fully functional.
