Limmud FSU Volga-Urals; A First Look

On Friday afternoon, shortly before the arrival of Shabbat, 400 participants – including 60 children – came together in Kazan, the capital of the Tatarstan Republic, for the largest Jewish event of the year. This first Limmud Volga-Urals festival brought together participants from throughout the greater Volga and Urals area, including Kazan, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, Chelyabinsk and Yekaterinburg. This area comprises the third largest Jewish concentration in Russia after Moscow and St. Petersburg. Today, there are some 10,000 Jews in Kazan.
