Kiev, Ukraine; January 22 – Limmud FSU held a special event yesterday at the center of Israeli culture in Kiev to honor the memory of the late Nobel Prize laureate, author and renowned Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, who passed away this past July. The event officially launched a special exhibition about Wiesel’s life, which is now open to the public.

Dr. Joel Rappel, founder of the Elie Wiesel Archive at Boston University, curated the exhibition honoring Wiesel’s life and accomplishments. The exhibition traces Wiesel’s years as a boy in Sighet, Romania, through surviving the Holocaust in Auschwitz and Buchenwald, to becoming a globally renowned novelist, journalist and thinker.

Distinguished guests and partners of Limmud FSU participated at the official event, including Limmud FSU Founder Chaim Chesler, Ukrainian Minister of Culture Evgeny Nischuk, Head of “Tkuma” institute Igor Shchupak, Director of Cymbalista Jewish Heritage Center in Tel Aviv University Professor Dan Laor, Israeli ambassador in Ukraine Eli Belotsercovsky, Regional director of “Nativ” and head of Center of Israeli Culture in Kiev Gennady Polishchouk, Jewish community in Ukraine-CEO and Chairman of Limmud Ukraine Osik Akselrod, and ASF representative in Ukraine Angela Belyak.

Speaking to eJP following the event, Chaim Chesler said: “Elie Wiesel was one of the most inspirational Jewish leaders of our time. This exhibition commemorates his story and life’s work, ensuring that they will not be forgotten.”
