Food charity threatens to quit due to poor funding

One of the charity organizations named in government tenders to distribute food to the needy, Latet, is threatening to withdraw unless the government increases the food budget from NIS 6 million.

Despite announcements that the state would allocate a sum of NIS 22.5 million over the next year and a half for food distribution, the Social Affairs Ministry has determined that only NIS 6 million would be allocated for food purchases. That is a drop in the ocean given the needs of the impoverished.

The organizations selected as the umbrella organizations to run the venture are Latet and Leket Israel, the largest food distribution charity organizations in Israel. But with the meager food budget, they are now thinking twice about joining the venture.
