Jewish Women’s Week in the U.K.

From May 2nd-9th, Jewish women across the UK will take part in Jewish Women’s Week, organized by WIZO UK, to raise vital funds for children at risk in Israel.

Over 1500 women will volunteer, many going door-to-door, in the hope of raising hundreds of thousands of pounds to support more than 12,000 at-risk children attending WIZO centres throughout Israel. Communities including Hull, Nottingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool, Leeds, Westcliff, London and Swansea will also host events and organize postal and phone appeals.

The money raised will help fund centers in Israel which provide support and advice for the treatment and prevention of domestic violence; day care centers to help parents develop their parenting skills; playgroups to improve the cognitive development of vulnerable children; and a National Hotline staffed by professionally trained volunteers providing support for victims in need of advice or vital assistance.

Jewish Women’s Week, which has been an annual event in the community’s calendar since 1947, is the only Home Office authorized door-to-door collection in the Jewish community. The event has raised over £1 million through its last four campaigns and celebrates its 63rd campaign this year.
