Jewish Overnight Camp for Young Adults Coming to Simi Valley

Trybal Gatherings, Berkshires

Trybal Gatherings, a series of four-day all-inclusive getaways at Jewish summer camps across the county for young Jewish adults in their 20s and 30s, is coming to Camp Alonim in Simi Valley, CA October 6-9. Registration is open ($550 until September 22; $650 September 23–29). The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles is offering $100 subsidies to LA-area residents.

Each Trybal Gatherings includes both classic and out-of-the-box camp activities, such as color war, ropes courses, a bar-mitzvah themed dance party, and inclusive and informal Shabbat experiences. All meals, lodging, and an open bar are included. The Gatherings are open to non-Jewish partners and friends who want to explore Jewish community. Trybal Gatherings in Simi Valley will be the second Trybal Gatherings of the year, following the first held this summer in the Berkshires that had 100 young adults from eight different states, along with Montreal and London. Half of those participants did not have prior Jewish summer camp experience.

“The weekend was a great reconnection back into the Jewish world that I didn’t know existed,” said Maura Koenig, who attended Trybal Gatherings in the Berkshires. “I assumed that most experiences available at my age were focused around religious activities and less about the type of community that I experienced at summer camp and got to see again at Trybal. It was truly a magical weekend where I felt like my best self and really a part of the community that formed so quickly and naturally. We created lasting bonds and memories that I know will carry me for months and years to come.”

Camp Alonim spans 3,000 acres in the rolling hills of Simi Valley, 45 minutes from Los Angeles. Its landscaped grounds and magnificent views have served as film locations for Jurassic Park, Star Trek, Power Rangers, 24, Bones, among other TV shows, movies, and commercials. Campers will be able to relax by the pool, stargaze around the campfire, scale the 50′ alpine tower, and do sunrise salutations facing the Santa Susana Mountains.

Trybal Gatherings is sponsored by OneTable, Masa Israel Journey, Adamah/Hazon, Reboot – which is providing a 60 inch custom-made graffiti coloring wall – and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles. Other product sponsors include The Matzo Project, The Fat Jewish, Shmaltz Brewery, Samuel Adams and Dunkin’ Donuts.
