Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles Announces Call for Papers for 2010 Cutting Edge Grants Initiative

The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles (The Foundation) has announced the deadline to apply for its Cutting Edge Grants Initiative has been set for Nov. 30, 2009. Cutting Edge Grants of up to $250,000 are awarded for multi-year innovative programs that address important, substantiated needs in the Los Angeles Jewish community.

Nonprofit organizations or social entrepreneurs with fiscal sponsors may receive funding for:

  • Programs never before tested;
  • Community-wide implementation of programs successfully piloted in Los Angeles;
  • Adaptations of high-impact programs tested outside of Los Angeles; or
  • Programs developed by social entrepreneurs to establish new nonprofits (with a partner fiscal receiver).

Since creating the Cutting Edge Grants Initiative in 2006, The Foundation has provided financial support in excess of $4.2 million to more than 25 innovative programs, including critical seed funding for Limmud LA, a grassroots initiative that promotes Jewish learning and community building across religious denominations; Jewish World Watch for its mobilization of the Los Angeles Jewish community to eradicate human rights abuses in Darfur; and 30 Years After – The Iranian-Jewish Community at a Crossroads, a program to increase participation of Iranian Jews in civic and political affairs.
