I find it outrageous that a Christian funded organization should take responsibility for a aliyah to the State of Israel. Are the Jewish people so destitute and Zionism so bankrupt that we must forfeit control over such a key facet of the modern Jewish experience? Mainstream Jewish organizations have always been warry about Eckstein’s initiative. Overwhelmed by the money and assuaged by his reassurances, they have slowly allowed Christian assistance to become mainstreamed. This, however, is a step too far. The Jewish establishment should put its foot down on this one. There’s just much money should be allowed to buy.
