Israeli Hospital, The Most Advanced in Haiti

On Friday, two Israeli jets carrying nearly 10 tons of medical equipment, doctors, nurses, medics, police forces and an elite search and rescue team landed in Haiti.

… Thus far, the Israeli search and rescue units have rescued 70 people from beneath the rubble.

In addition to deploying search and rescue units to find survivors, Israel established a field hospital that includes 40 doctors, 24 nurses, medics, paramedics, x-ray equipment and personnel, a pharmacy, an emergency room, two surgery rooms, an incubation ward, a children’s ward, a maternity ward, and more. The field hospital is capable of treating nearly 500 victims per day and performing initial surgeries.

US Jewish groups raise millions of dollars for victims

American Jewish groups have raised millions of dollars for Haiti relief aid in the days following last Tuesday’s devastating earthquake and are on pace to raise many millions more, according to several organizations.

Among the top fundraisers are the American Jewish World Service, which has received $2 million to date, and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, which has collected $1.5 million so far.

The JDC’s coordinator of disaster relief, William Recant, made a “guestimate” that total donations via the Jewish community could well reach $10 million, as outreach continues over the next weeks and months.

Jewish Federation raises $282,981 for Haitian earthquake relief

In its first five days, the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago’s Haitian Earthquake Relief Fund has raised $283,000 from nearly 2,200 donors. The money is aiding relief efforts on the ground, going directly for medical care, food and other services.

Within hours of the earthquake, Federation reached out to regular donors and others in the local Jewish community via blast email, seeking their help. The rapid response reflects both the personal and communal outpouring of support, and the dramatic role electronic communication now plays in times of crisis.

The vast majority of contributors donated via the web, most often clicking the link in the email they received. Nearly $260,000 came in online from 2,058 individuals. Social media also played an important role, as Federation spread its request for help for Haiti via Facebook and Twitter.

Donations to Aid Haiti Exceed $210-Million, Chronicle Tally Finds

Contributions continue to pour in for relief efforts in Haiti. Six days after the massive earthquake struck, donors have contributed more than $210-million to major U.S. relief groups, a Chronicle tally finds.

The pace of giving for Haiti is running ahead of the amount donated in the same period after the Asian tsunamis in 2004, but slower than the outpouring of gifts after the flooding caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
