Israeli businessman and philanthropist Eitan Wertheimer has pledged $5 million to create a business fund for Southern Israel, to help develop the area’s long-term economy at a time of intense focus on violence in the region.

The fund will provide below-market-rate loans and collateral via loan guarantees to spur wide support for businesses in the Negev region widely seen as crucial to Israel’s growth.
