To paraphrase the gist of what I just read, Rich men and one woman write checks (Did I say VERY rich men?). However such is what vacuums create. It would be not only nice but beneficial if somewhere in academia there was an effort by scholars studying the American Jewish experience to give fuller more textured portrayals of American Jewish philanthropy and the organizational structures which sustained it – if only for posterity’s sake and future generations of communal donors and activists. Hagiographic articles like this one don’t cut it.
