Crypto-Jewish Tzedakah?

March 6, 2009 By eJP

from Haaretz:

Shavei Israel is planning on sending an emissary this year to southern Italy to see if there is a connection between the locals’ religious roots and their charitable ways. Although Italian Jews number only an estimated 40,000, it appears that no fewer than 80,000 Italians choose annually to give donations to local Jewish charities.

The Jewish community made the curious discovery that most tax donors to Jewish charities come from Italy’s south, even though most Italian Jews live in the north, by analyzing public financial records.

There may only be 40,000 Italian Jews in Italy, however there are several million Italian Crypto-Jews in the United States along with Millions of Spanish Crypto-Jews, Millions of French Crypto-Jews and Millions of Portuguese Crypto-Jews that don’t yet know they are of Jewish Ancestry. We need to spark the light of all Crypto-Jews around the world and once the world understands how many Jews there are around the world, the idea of getting rid of the Jew’s, becomes impossible. A place to start is to educate the Crypto-Jews at CryptoJews.com.

The reason why most donations are coming from the South of Italy, is because they are Crypto-Jews and they know they are Jewish, however after living under the Inquisition for so long, they are still afraid to let people know of their Jewish history.
