Many thanks for sharing this important initiative. Recognizing the proximity to Shavuot, this represents a wonderful example of “Machlokot le’shem shemayim, arguments for the sake (or perhaps more poignantly) that represent heaven. I would love to see this methodology expanded in a more cohesive and integrated manner to frame our discussions and varying views on being Jewish in the contemporary world. Might we have healthier conversations about Israel if our discussions are framed in the goals outlined by your Israel Committee where numbers one and three “being Jewish” could be inserted in place of “Israel”?
Mazel Tov on taking this step as a community and utilizing the valuable expertise and tools of the Public Conversations Project.
In Boulder, CO, we just completed a six session interfaith giving circle (Jewish, Muslim and Christian community participants) with active support from the Public Conversations project. In the Olive Branch Giving Circles pilot program, we learned about individual and faith based giving practices, had constructive conversations about the conflict and allocated funding to two bi-national organizations working to build bridges between Israelis and Palestinians.
There should be more efforts to learn from each other both within the Jewish community and with our brothers and sisters.
