Rabbi Sherre Hirsch (AJU)

The Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) has named Sarah Eisinger to the position of Director of JCamp 180®. She replaces Mark Gold, who is retiring after serving as Director since 2011. With Sarah at the helm of JCamp 180, HGF can continue to put emphasis on developing training and resources to enhance and sustain the effectiveness of nonprofit Jewish summer camps.

Sarah joins HGF with more than twenty years’ experience in the nonprofit sector. She started her career in philanthropy at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and went on to hold roles in the economic development field. Throughout her career, she has consulted, trained, and coached hundreds of nonprofits across the US and Canada and has developed a specialty in nonprofit facilities – most recently as Vice President of Real Estate at MassDevelopment. She has also co-authored a new book on the subject, Shared Space and the New Nonprofit Workplace. Sarah’s real estate work has touched all aspects of organizational development, including fundraising, program development and governance.

Sarah is an alumna of the Volunteer Corps of American Jewish World Service and is a former camper, counselor, and Program Director at Camp Interlaken JCC in Eagle River, Wisconsin.

American Jewish University (AJU) has announced the appointment of Rabbi Sherre Hirsch as its new Chief Innovation Officer. Hirsch will join the Los Angeles-based institution tasked with a broad mandate to reimagine Jewish education, outreach and engagement by leveraging AJU’s wide-ranging platform, which includes two campuses, a rabbinical school, and a slate of community and public educational programs. She will also provide intellectual leadership for AJU’s Whizin Center for Continuing Education, which offers classes, lectures, author events, concerts and performances.

Rabbi Hirsch served as the first female rabbi at Sinai Temple, the largest Conservative congregation on the west coast and, most recently as Senior Rabbinic Scholar at Hillel International, where she created and developed Hillelwell, an initiative for Hillels worldwide for preventative mental health.

Often described as a “soul entrepreneur,” Hirsch brings a unique combination of experience as a pulpit rabbi, a senior executive at national Jewish institutions, a published author, and a leading public intellectual who frequently provides commentary on issues of spirituality and religion in national media.
