CASJE Releases RFP for Research That Will Contribute to the Practice of Jewish Education

CASJE (Consortium for Applied Studies in Jewish Education) has released a request for proposals (RFP) to promote research that can make a difference in how Jewish education is practiced. Three grants, up to $30,000 each, will be awarded to stimulate time-concentrated research that is clearly connected to one of CASJE’s areas of focus, and that will apply to the practice of Jewish education. Areas of inquiry currently supported by CASJE include: Jewish educational leadership, Jewish early childhood education, Hebrew language education, Israel education, and the career trajectories of Jewish educators. CASJE’s efforts in these areas are all at the nexus of research and practice. Submissions for this award should be similarly conceived.

The deadline to submit a proposal is September 17, 2018. Awards will be made December 17, 2018. The selection committee is comprised of members of the CASJE Board. The research funded by the grant will be conducted within a continuous period of 6 months, and completed within 12 months of the award.

CASJE will hold a Small Grants Bidders’ Call Webinar Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 11:00 am EDT.

Eligibility Requirements:

Principal Investigators (PIs) and at least one of the Co-PIs (if a collaboration is proposed) applying for a research grant must have an earned doctorate in an academic discipline or professional field.

Proposals are accepted from the U.S. and internationally, however all proposals must be submitted in English and budgets must be proposed in U.S. Dollars.

CASJE is committed to sharing knowledge to improve Jewish education. Upon completion of the study, grantees will: 1) Submit a paper/spotlight/consultation proposal for presentation at the annual Network for Research in Jewish Education conference, and 2) Publish a practitioner-oriented blog/article and/or present at a practitioner-oriented conference to engage the field about the project’s findings. Additionally, CASJE will make available data generated by awardees for secondary analysis by other researchers.
