Recent events in North America, including the mass shooting at Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh, have created a great deal of individual, communal, and political soul-searching for American Jews. Consequently, the MFJC will be hosting its first ever Regional Nahum Goldman Fellowship in the United States, for young Jewish leaders ages 25-40 currently living in the US, from March 10-12, 2019 at the Pearlstone Retreat Center in Maryland. The aim of this regional NGF is to convene a diverse group of young American Jews to: a) think together critically about the current status of American Jewry, American Judaism and the American Jewish community and b) to begin to articulate a vision for American Jewry going forward.

Presentations will include two plenary conversations: Where are We and How did We get Here?, a multi-perspective panel on the last 25 years of American Jewish life, including ideologies, denominations and politics and This Moment in America, addressing questions like: ‘Is America safe for the Jewish community?’ ‘Is there such a thing as American Judaism?’ and ‘Is there a shared vision for American Jewry?’ Various workshops will be offered.

The faculty like the Fellows, reflect the diversity of American Jewry.

While this announcement is for a 3-day regional program, the International Nahum Goldmann Fellowship is an immersive, weeklong, international seminar gathering a diverse array of young Jews from all parts of the Jewish world, with a wide range of opinions and religious and political ideologies. The NGF has no political or religious agenda and focuses exclusively on igniting Jewish passion and promoting Jewish unity and connectedness, by exposing participants to the highest level of Jewish scholarship offered by our international faculty.
