It is fascinating to think of the small Jewish communities who still live in such diverse geographical and cultural areas. This a testament to the Jewish will to live and thrive no matter where they are.
Ilana did a skillful job of highlighting some of these small communities.

Dear Ilana
I am a post war greek jewish lady born in athens (maiden name Levi) and now live in London. read your article about mediterranean jews with great interest and I have visited corfu and personally know Zinon how amazing!
few years ago I made a trip to the jewish greek communities flourished north of Greece, starting from Thessalonica -capital of Sepharadi world before the war now with only 2000 jews, as well as smaller greek communities Volos, Larissa, Ioannina, Kastoria- with a handful of surviving jews- It is devastating for me to see how the war ‘wiped out’ such rich jewish traditional communities….
I can send you more information about the greek jews of Athens as I was born there and still keep in touch.
I would love to hear from you and may be join you next time to visit greek jewish communities regards Rita Levi Wolfisz
