15,000 Youth “Can-Tribute” 200,000 Pounds of Food to Fight Hunger at Thanksgiving

Can-tribute

Just in time for Thanksgiving, 15,000 youth from across North America came together for Can-Tribute, a BBYO-and-DoSomething.org-led hunger awareness and advocacy campaign. Together, they collected and donated 200,000 pounds of food to food banks in their communities. The winner of the three largest food drives – where the overall winner, Alexa Thrash of Fort Worth, TX collected 67,000 cans of food – won a pre-screening of The Hunger Games – Mockingjay Part 1 for themselves and 20 friends. Also part of the campaign were BBYO-hosted pre-screenings of the movie in 49 cities across North America. These events, open to the community, provided an opportunity for teens to come together locally, bring more cans to their theaters and learn about their role in the fight against hunger in their community.

The five-week hunger advocacy and awareness campaign will conclude this Sunday, November 30th.
