Russian-Speaking Jewish Educators Gather in St. Petersburg for “Learn and Teach” Seminar

global-day-russian-englishRussian-speaking Jewish (RSJ) educators are convening in St. Petersburg this week in preparation for the expansion of the Global Day of Jewish Learning, as the event seeks to reach more Russian-speaking Jewish communities around the world.

This week’s professional development seminar, exploring the power of Jewish texts, will serve as training for educators from communities across the FSU, including Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The seminar will cover how educators can claim the vast and diverse treasure of Jewish texts as their own, empower them to teach these texts in their communities, and equip them to organize educational community events. Seminar sessions will explore different ways of approaching Jewish texts, both traditional and contemporary, as well as give participants the tools they need to organize successful, engaging on-the-ground events. The intensive seminar is designed to help communities plan local educational events tied in with the Global Day of Jewish Learning.

This seminar and the expansion of the Global Day of Jewish Learning to additional RSJ communities has been made possible with the generous support of Genesis Philanthropy Group.
