I agree that social media is not a panacea for fundraising; nor should it be considered as such. Instead, it is crucial to remember that fundraising is fundamentally about relationships. Social media is an amazing tool for finding and engaging your constituents. Social media allows organizations to have personal interactions with their supporters at scale. Think about these tools (like an organizational Facebook Page) as a way to reconnect with constituents and build strong, meaningful relationships in tandem with traditional methods like direct mail, in-person events and meetings, and phone calls.

I also agree that many organizations need to work harder at maintaining and growing their database lists. Tools like eNewsletters and social media offer simpler, less expensive ways to reach out to people and request updates to their contact information and interests. Organizations can implement simple forms using free tools on Google or Facebook to collect updated contact information so that they can continue to build relationships with their supporters in all appropriate channels.

Thanks for continuing to have this conversation - we are all still learning how to use these tools effectively and only an open discussion will lead us to success.
