JDC Israel names 1st Woman Director General

JDC has named Dr. Sigal Shelach to the position of Director General JDC Israel. She is the first woman to be named to this position. Shelach’s appointment is effective August 1, 2018, following the retirement of Professor Yossi Tamir.

Shelach is currently head of JDC-TEVET, and, for the past four years has also served as the Senior Deputy Director of JDC Israel. Shelach is one of Israel’s leading experts on labor market integration and on advancement of non-employed, populations including minorities, immigrants, and the disabled.

Tamir has spent more than two decades at JDC, transforming social services in Israel by serving in a number of different leadership roles. In addition to serving as Director General of JDC Israel since 2014, he has led JDC’s flagship Eshel initiative for the elderly; led JDC’s Ashalim program for children and youth at risk; launched JDC-TEVET; and led the Myers JDC Brookdale research institute.
