Hillel’s Global Leaders Convene in Jerusalem

Building upon the recommendations of their Global Task Force, Hillel is currently holding its first Global Leaders Forum in Jerusalem. A select group of students, Regional/Country Directors, professionals and lay leaders from Hillels around the world are discussing what is common between the organizations, what is different, and what Hillel can do to leverage their global network while also strengthening students’ connection to the Jewish people around the world. A highlight of yesterday’s opening day program was a lively panel discussion, ‘What does it mean to operate as a global enterprise’ featuring Sandy Cardin (president of the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation), Avraham Infeld (Hillel’s President Emeritus and Hillel Israel Board Chair) and Netaly Ophir-Flint (Vice-President of the Reut Institute).

Countries represented include Australia, Canada, Israel, Germany – where a first-in-country initiative is under way, Russia, Ukraine, the U.K., the U.S. and Uruguay.

In other Hillel news, the organization is partnering with The Shalom Hartman Institute in establishing the Hartman Fellowship for Campus Professionals program. The core curriculum of the Fellowship will be based on the Hartman Institute iEngage Project which focuses on articulating a new narrative for defining the relationship between Israel and world Jewry and will feature ongoing study, enrichment and intellectual leadership training. The program will launch next month.
