Group Works to Move Away From Madoff

Hadassah, the national Jewish women’s philanthropic organization, has sold its longtime Midtown headquarters as it undertakes an effort to reshape its image, sharpen its aim and recover from a costly entanglement with disgraced financier Bernard Madoff.

… The $71.5 million sale, set to be approved at a meeting next month, marks a turning point for the 100-year-old group.

… Now, leaders say they plan to confront other challenges: a mission that has grown diffuse and an image among many younger Jewish women that Hadassah is a musty pastime for suburban matrons.
