Stephen-

I agree that it is very important that Board Members have their responsibilities and expectations clearly defined and documented, both in general and for fundraising in particular.

Board Members each bring their own strengths and talents to the Board, so it is especially important to tap this incredible resource. In fundraising in particular, many people aren't comfortable with the "ask" itself. Therefore, as you alluded to in this article, there are lots of ways that Board Members can be helpful in fundraising for the organization, in addition to making the "ask."

The Grinspoon Institute for Jewish Philanthropy just held a Webinar on this very topic. You can find the presentation and a recording of the session on our website at http://gijptech.org/?page_id=1602.

Note also that we have a blog post on this topic as well: http://gijptech.org/?p=1585.

Anyone else have any ideas about Board Members' role in fundraising for the organization?

Re the article above. Any Board member of the Spirit of Israel organization is obliged to make an annual financial contribution as a precondition to Board membership.
