Emory Hillel will present a little-known series of works by the late master of the Surrealist Movement, Salvador Dali, that celebrates the rebirth of Israel. “Aliyah: The Rebirth of Israel” is a complete collection of the 25 limited-edition colored lithographs by Dali issued in 1968 in honor of Israel’s 20th anniversary.

The works will be on display at the Marcus Hillel Center at Emory University beginning March 17, 2011. The exhibit is presented by Hillel at Emory University and sponsored in part by The Consulate General of Israel to the Southeast, Emory University Office of the President, The Emory Center for Creativity and the Arts’ David Goldwasser Series in Religion and the Arts, The Blonder Family Foundation, the Blaine Family Foundation, and the Cohen Chair of Judaic Studies.

This is the premier Atlanta exhibit of the complete collection, which is on loan to Hillel at Emory by Prof. David Blumenthal through June 2011. This set (No. 150 of 250), believed to be the only one in Atlanta, has been maintained in its original box and framed for this exhibit.

The prints are accompanied by a large-format book with the text written by Gerson D. Cohen and the introduction written and signed by David Ben-Gurion, the first prime minister of Israel. A full commentary on the exhibit has been written by Prof. Blumenthal and is available on his website.

Visitors will be able to use their iPhone or iPod Touch to download the commentary and audio guide by Prof. David Blumenthal provided by Emory’s University Technology Services and iTunes U.

A Gallery Opening will take place on Thursday, March 17, 2011, featuring a talk by Dr. Elliot King, a noted authority on Dali who recently curated the exhibit, Dali: The Late Work, at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art.
