The Professional Leaders Project (PLP) will phase out its operations effective August 31, 2009. Created in 2004, PLP’s mission is “turning leadership over to the next generation.” PLP is the first high-end Talent pool of outstanding volunteer and professional leaders, in their mid-20’s – early 30’s for the American Jewish community. PLP’s impact has been highly acclaimed by key foundations, organizations and top community leaders across the country. Rhoda M. Weisman, Founding Executive Director, stated, “The Jewish community’s greatest resource is its human capital and in the case of PLP, we have identified, trained and placed Gen Y Talent in top leadership roles across the country. The investment in PLP and its Talent will be a lasting one. We are saddened to phase out the Professional... Continue Reading

This evening, young Jewish leaders from twenty-nine countries will gather in Israel for the fourth annual ROI Global Summit for Young Jewish Innovators. The Summit, which runs through Thursday, is an innovative project of the Center for Leadership Initiatives (CLI), in partnership with Taglit-Birthright Israel. CLI was founded by American Jewish philanthropist Lynn Schusterman. This year, for the first time, and in celebration of Tel Aviv’s 100th birthday, the Summit will be held in nearby Kfar Maccabiah (Israel’s Olympic Village). Competition for the coveted 120 slots was fierce; CLI received nearly 600 applications from all over the world. This year’s outstanding innovators, all first time attendees, were chosen as 120 who are engaged in projects with the potential to change the face of the... Continue Reading

The Jewish Agency is recruiting young leadership from around the world to participate in the October Board of Governors meeting in Jerusalem and to become involved in Jewish Agency governance and decision making in the future. In a letter to Federation Chief Executives, Board Chair Richie Pearlstone described the Forum this way, “The goal of the Global Forum for Emerging Leaders is to develop and train a core group of emerging leaders for the Jewish Agency and our partners.” The move represents “the creation of an official platform through which emerging leaders can help shape the future of the organization, and an opportunity to work in collaboration with peers from around the world to design and develop meaningful programs for JAFI.” The Forum will include educational sessions with Jewish... The New Jewish Media
from Jewcy: Surprise, It’s New Jewish Media In talks with foundation people, I also got a chance to piece together an understanding of how the Jewish old guard was reacting to all of this upstart activity. It was this relationship that interested me most: the marriage of questionable convenience between the young people who wanted to throw pie in the face of the establishment, and the older folks who were willing to endure it because it heartened them to see so many young Jews getting together to throw pie. tip to Joel; master of the RSS universe. NextGenJews.org: The New Address for Federations’ Young Leaders

UJC National Young Leadership has launched a vibrant new Web site, NextGenJews.org, designed to inform, inspire, and connect young, socially conscious Jewish adults. With bold graphics and lively text, NextGenJews.org welcomes visitors and offers multiple ways to explore content. The text and graphics underscore a key message: that the Federation system creates opportunities for young Jews interested in connecting with peers and making a difference in the world. “The ‘hands-on’ message is key, because today’s young Jews have shown they want to be deeply involved in social action, and they very much relate to our goal of tikkun olam, ‘healing the world,’” said Cindy Nimhauser, co-chair of National Young Leadership. “But more than in the past, what draws them to an organization is the... Lists, Lists and More Lists: Take 2
The Jewish Week is out with their second list of three dozen young Jews retooling Jewish life in New York. Some of the names are ones you’d expect. Others, dark horses. from The Jewish Week Much has been written in these pages and elsewhere about the concern over younger Jews who are less affiliated with Jewish organizations, less connected to Israel and less interested in communal life than their elders. Statistics support this disturbing trend, and that is why it is especially important to highlight the exceptions to the rule. In truth, there are many accomplished, motivated and committed younger people who are not only filling vital roles in the community but are expanding the parameters of Jewish life through their creativity and imagination. In our second “36 Under 36″ section... Continue Reading
Eight Connections to Young Donors

Young donors in the 20 to 40 age demographic are unique. Some have never lived in a household without a computer. Many are on at least one social networking site. Some actually think reality T.V. is normal. Whatever you might learn about these young donors, it seems as though stages of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship still ring true, according to Derrick Feldmann, CEO of Indianapolis-based Achieve. Feldmann explained how to break into the young demographic at the 46th annual Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) international fundraising conference in New Orleans. He outlined steps for building relationships with these young, social-savvy donors: Continue Reading [Translate] Bookmark: Read More →

It’s been a week since the Jewlicious Festival ended. I thought some kind of broad recap would be in order and might even prove to be somewhat instructive to those of you out there who are into that sort of thing, like readers of eJewish Philanthropy or the Fundermentalist. Both of those aforementioned blogs deal with issues related to Jewish philanthropy as well as with organizations and projects they fund. Both have also expressed an interest in issues related to youth, innovation and social entrepreneurship – buzz phrases that one often hears uttered by Jewish organizations both large and small. As far as the Festival goes, it was in almost every respect a smashing success. We had nearly 1000 Jewish students and young adults enjoy a weekend full of fun, food, music and over 120 individual... Jewlicious…Jumpstart…Limmud…Jewish LA is a busy place these days. For those interested in innovation we had the release of the The 2008 Survey of New Jewish Organizations, the first-ever survey featuring data for understanding the world of Jewish nonprofits in the midst of an economic crisis. Limmud, growing worldwide by leaps and bounds, held their second LA event. And this Friday, the annual three-day gathering, Jewlicious Festival 5.0, largest youth festival of its kind, celebrates its half-decade with a special appearance by Grammy nominated Jewish reggae sensation Matisyahu. If you’ve never caught the Jewlicious fever before, there is still time to check it out! Here’s more about the recent Limmud from The LA Jewish Journal: LimmudLA Fills 3 Days and Nights of Doing...
